Have you heard of #edCamps? Want to meet up at "campsites" and share, learn, and explore based on your interests?

Have you heard of #edCamps? Want to meet up at "campsites" and share, learn, and explore based on your interests?
- #edCamps were an idea that sprang up from computer programmers in Philadelphia doing the same thing after-hours at their favorite bar, #barcamps.
- Then a few educators decided they could do it too!
- There's a spot for "Other" so if your team or PLT want to explore a topic, add it to the list!
Can't wait to go camping!! I promise there won't be any bugs or snakes~~~~
Week of September 13
1st Graders...If you don't live with one or have been around one recently, then you're missing out.
One of the highlights of my week last week were the precious moments in the 1st grade classes at HES. I don't know who is smarter, the students or teachers. They(both T and S) are incredible learners. If you have not been around a 6 yr old lately, then you may not know how insanely creative and excited they get about talking, sharing, and creating.
The teachers, well, I bow humbly to them and all of you, as you listen patiently and watch patiently as the kids ask, ask, ask, talk, talk, talk, and do.
Last week was Dot Day, the celebration of a picture book, The Dot, by Peter Reynolds, and the story challenges people to "make a mark and see where it goes"...with a single Dot. Many of the kids took that message a step further, Never give up, It doesn't have to be perfect, you can do anything. Small, but insightful People!
HES 1st graders took tools offered to them and made their mark----on the paper, computer and on me! I attached photos of some of their work. Great examples of student recognition.
Techie Student Recognition:
Give kids recognition, post their photos on your BB/website
type up their responses to an essential question or have a student leader do it, then post them using Wordle or Tagxedo (fun word clouds)
got Twitter = Tweet photos of student work or students, don't have Twitter- snap a photo and send it to me and I will Tweet it. Tag @RolesvilleMS and we will retweet it
Creative Tools for Teachers and Students - to make your mark!
Quiver - an augmented reality app that turns special coloring pages into 3D objects on the screen - VERY Cool to see, and not just for 1st graders
Biteable - I have a fun new tool you can use to introduce a topic, essential question, Exit ticket, or have kids create them and email them to you. I created this quick video in 6 min, the slides, music, and colors are customizable, just have fun!
Simple Minds - ipad MindMapping App
Animoto - this website has greatly improved
Voki and Tellagami - great ways to introduce a topic, ask a question, share a vocabulary word
iMovie - make trailers or movies on topics, books, events
Got a website or app to add to the list? Email me!!!
Tech Location Update:
Week of Sept. 21 - RMS (offsite meeting Sept. 23)
